The NFL has its Defensive Rookie of the Year. San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa walked away with the award on Saturday at the NFL Honors in Miami.

Bosa is the second of his family to win NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. His older brother, Joey, won the award as a defensive end for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2016. Both entered the NFL Draft out of Ohio State; both went in the top three.

The Niner won the award of Maxx Crosby (Las Vegas Raiders), Devin Bush (Pittsburgh Steelers) and Josh Allen (Jacksonville Jaguars).

Bosa, 22, was the No. 2 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, after Kyler Murray, who won NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Despite missing time in training camp with a high-ankle sprain, he was an immediate contributor for the stingy 49ers defense.

Bosa tallied nine sacks and an NFL-second ranked 60 pressures in 2019. He also came up with a forced fumble and an interception.

Not only was Bosa named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, but he also earned a Pro Bowl nod for his efforts. Of course, he did not play in the exhibition showcase in Orlando, as the 49ers are in Miami to play in the Super Bowl, against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

For San Francisco, acquiring Bosa in the NFL Draft helped them get over a big hump. With his edge-rushing prowess, the 49ers defense wreaked havoc on offensive lines all season long, that's played a big part in their one-year turnaround from 4-12.
