Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry is quickly becoming one the best point guards in the league today especially with how he runs his team's offense. They are in the midst of their best start in franchise history with a 21-8 record and are currently ranked second in the Eastern Conference.

Given his impressive play, it won't come as a surprise if many teams will pursue him after this season should he opt-out of the final year of his contract. One team that's been rumored to make a move in signing the 30-year-old Villanova product is the Philadelphia 76ers, who are in need of a steady playmaker who can help turn their fortunes around.

While many will easily scratch off the Sixers' chances of landing the two-time All-Star, there are also some factors that could play to their advantage.

Lowry is a native of Philadelphia and grew up cheering for his hometown team. He has also remained active in helping out some communities there together with his wife and foundation.

The 6-foot point guard also has ties with 76ers GM, Bryan Colangelo, who used to hold the same position with the Raptors, and was instrumental in bringing Lowry to Ontario. Should he decide to show his loyalty to the veteran front office executive, choosing the Sixers over his other suitors will be easier.

Another factor that could make the Philly faithful feel positive about signing Lowry is the fact that they have the ability to offer him a max contract and be the franchise player surrounded by young and promising talent. Turning around his hometown team's fortunes may be enticing to him as he would get the chance to become the sole leader of the Sixers.

It may still be early in the 2016-2017 season and a long way to go before next summer, but teams may already be preparing their pitches to big name free agents whom they plan to pursue next year. The Sixers landing Lowry may seem like a long-shot, and the Raptors are still the favorites given their current success, but it won't be entirely impossible as well if he decides to be closer to family and play for his hometown.
