The Los Angeles Angels are hiring former Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

The deal is for three years:

The Cubs parted ways with Maddon on Sept. 29, putting him out of work, but not for long, as it took only 18 days for him to find his next managing gig. Maddon had been linked to the job in Anaheim right as he found his way out of Wrigley Field, as both parties already had previous rapport on the table.

Maddon’s hiring is the first of many to come, with seven other openings remaining within MLB clubhouses.

The 65-year-old skipper's hiring is not unexpected but it is a big move for the Angels, who are coming off a horrendous 2019 season. Maddon worked for decades as an Angels minor league player and manager and as a major league coach before starting his MLB managing career in Tampa Bay, which ultimately catapulted him to relevance.

Maddon accrued a 471-339-1 record with the Cubs, also leading them to a World Series title in 2016, beating the Cleveland Indians in a thrilling Game 7 to end the curse and secure their first World Series title in 108 years.

The Angels went 72-90 under Brad Ausmus before he got the boot, making way for Maddon to take over and make use of arguably the best talent in the game in Mike Trout, who missed the latter part of the season after undergoing foot surgery.
