Some people, Cincinnati Bengals fans in particular, probably will never forgive head coach Zac Taylor for his usage of his running backs in Super Bowl 56 against the Los Angeles Rams. But that definitely was not a factor at all in the Bengals' decision to hand Taylor a contract extension for his masterful work in leading the franchise to the grandest stage in all of football last season.

Via Bengals reporter Marisa Contipelli:

The #Bengals and Zac Taylor have agreed to a contract extension through the 2026 season. Well deserved after Taylor led the Bengals to an AFC North title, AFC Championship, and Super Bowl appearance in his third season.

Cincinnati president Mike Brown was full of praises for Taylor in his statement on extending the head coach.

“Zac has come into the league and worked to develop the foundations for a winning program that can be successful over time. The fruits of Zac's efforts were seen this year, and Zac is well-regarded by our players and coaches. I know the effort and passion Zac brings to the building and to our team, and I am pleased by his approach. And I think the city of Cincinnati sees him the way the players and I do. He's brought excitement to the town and deserves credit and recognition for that.”

The Bengals made a massive leap in 2021 that probably even surprised Cincy diehards. After winning a total of just six games in his first two seasons with the team, Taylor steered the Bengals to a 10-7 record in 2021to capture the AFC North title and the AFC championship.

The challenge now for Taylor is to make sure that the Bengals will be able to sustain all the momentum they've built in 2021.
