Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen had an up and down first season in the NFL but running back LeSean McCoy thinks that his second year is going to be a lot better. McCoy said one of the most significant changes he has seen so far this offseason is he is using his smarts this year.

Last year McCoy saw Allen have his success because of his talent, but this year he thinks it will be the talent along with his intelligence that helps him take the big step forward.

“He looks better,” McCoy said via BuffaloNews.com. “I think he looks more confident. I think last year he just played off of talent. Sometimes, when quarterbacks are really talented, you overlook how smart they really are. Josh is smart.”

Allen said after minicamp he is feeling confident with where his game is progressing, but he knows that every day he needs to come in and try to get better at one thing.

“I definitely think as you get better, you have to step back and see where you’ve progressed,” Allen said. “Obviously, there’s something that you can get better at every day, and having a certain mindset and trying to pick something specific to go work on. At the same time, getting out there and trying to understand that some parts of my game are looking good, but trying to work on something else. ‘I can revisit this and make sure that thing is good to go.’

Being in his second year means more pressure on Allen to perform at a higher level, and it appears he is taking the right steps to get it done.
