The Portland Trail Blazers have extended their general manager Neil Olshey until the end of the 2023-24 season, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The longtime NBA executive was rewarded with a five-year extension after the Blazers (53-29, third in West) reached the Western Conference Finals, soon being swept by the Golden State Warriors thereafter.

While many called for a complete revamping of the roster after the Blazers were swept by the lower-seeded New Orleans Pelicans in 2018, Olshey decided to keep the pillars of the operation, adding other supporting pieces in the offseason and trading for Rodney Hood, as well as acquiring Enes Kanter, who Portland had eyed plenty times before.

Under that formula, the Blazers went on to advance to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since a 1999-00 Blazers team experienced a painful loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Lakers, leaving them a game shy of reaching the NBA Finals.

The deal puts recent rumors of the Washington Wizards targeting Olshey as one of their potential candidates to take the vacant GM job at the nation's capital. A job that has been idle since the firing of longtime president of basketball operations Ernie Grunfeld. Tommy Sheppard has taken control of the front office in an interim basis.

Olshey is not the only one to be rewarded with a deal, as head coach Terry Stotts recently signed an extension earlier this week, and superstar Damian Lillard is expected to net a four-year, $191 supermax extension in the near future.
