With the MVP race heating up, it isn't surprising that Portland Trail Blazers legend Rasheed Wallace is giving his vote to Damian Lillard.

Dame has been nothing short of outstanding for the Blazers this season, and Wallace explains why he believes the six-time All-Star should be the current frontrunner for this season's Most Valuable Player award.

In a recent interview on ESPN's First Take with Stephen A. Smith, Wallace shared his thoughts on why Lillard is his MVP:

“It’s tough, but right now, I would have to give it to Dame myself,” Wallace said on the show, via Aron Yohanes of The Oreginian “because he’s played in a majority of all the games. We already know Dame is a monster, so I would have to give it to him at this moment.”

Fair point from Sheed here. Lillard is as tough as they come, and he has played in a lot of games for the Blazers this season. The 30-year-old has a knack for playing through injuries, and he has been one of the robust players in the league over the years.

Ironically, though, Lillard is expected to sit out Friday against the San Antonio Spurs with a hamstring problem. He was a full participant during Tuesday's loss to the Boston Celtics, and with Lillard, you know it's a relatively serious concern whenever he sits out due to injury.

Nevertheless, it's much more than just durability for the Blazers star. He is able to back up Wallace's claim with the numbers he has been putting up this season: 28.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 7.7 assists, and 4.1 triples per game. The Blazers are primed for yet another playoff run this term, and Lillard has been at the very thick of their success.
