Portland Trail Blazers superstar point guard Damian Lillard put forth one of, if not the best offensive performances of his entire career on Friday, as he torched the Brooklyn Nets for a career-high 60 points.

Unfortunately for Lillard, his heroics were invalidated by the Nets, who still emerged victorious in the tightly-contested matchup, 119-115. Following the disappointing loss, Blazers head coach Terry Stotts could not help but feel sorry for his prized star, implying that this type of performance deserved a W.

Lillard has been red hot to start the new campaign, with the four-time All-Star currently averaging 30.0 points (on 48.0 percent shooting), 5.1 rebounds, 7.1 assists, 1.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks, while also connecting on 3.8 3-pointers per ballgame on a 39.0-percent clip. Those are definitely some MVP-worthy numbers right there, and at this point in the young season, Lillard has definitely established himself as one of the best performers in the entire league.

Despite his tremendous level of play, however, the Blazers have struggled, losing six out of their nine games thus far. Friday's defeat marks Portland's fourth straight loss, which notably includes a surprise defeat at the hands of the extremely shorthanded Golden State Warriors on Monday, 127-118.

Lillard has been an absolute beast for the Blazers this season, but he will need some help if the team hopes to turn things around sooner rather than later. For one, Lillard's backcourt partner, CJ McCollum, will need to raise his level of play, with the former Most Improved Player of the Year winner currently averaging a career-low 40.0 percent from the field.

The Blazers next take the floor on Sunday against the Atlanta Hawks, and hopefully, they are able to take this opportunity to bounce back from what has been a terrible spell over the past week.
