The MLB lockout has stalled any offseason talks and action for all teams. However, the work stoppage hasn't prevented news from swirling about the actions of teams before the lockout. According to the latest Blue Jays rumors, Toronto showed interest in these All-Star pitchers before the MLB lockout, via MLB Trade Rumors, Ben Nicholson-Smith and Scott Mitchell.

Prior to the lockout, the Jays, according to a source, were very interested in Cincinnati Reds starter Tyler Mahle.

The Jays also had interest in Gray and Castillo before the lockout, tweets Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.

Per the latest Blue Jays rumors, Toronto showed interest in Cincinnati Reds pitchers Tyler Mahle, Luis Castillo and Sonny Gray. The three Reds pitchers have made three MLB All-Star teams between the trio, and they combined to help Cincinnati post the seventh-best ERA in the majors two seasons ago before taking a step back in 2021.

It's not surprising to hear that the Blue Jays were interested in these hurlers before the MLB lockout. Whether that interest changes after the team's signing of free agent Kevin Gausman remains to be seen.

Any of Castillo, Gray or Mahle would more than fill Toronto's need of a number-five starter, as the Reds stars are capable of pitching like aces. These rumors show that the Blue Jays were thinking big about their rotation before the MLB lockout.
