The Denver Broncos have been rumored to be a team that is in the market for a quarterback and it appears they neared a trade for Matthew Stafford before he was traded to the Los Angeles Rams. According to Mike Klis of 9News, the Lions were interested in swapping Stafford for Drew Lock before the Rams swooped in.

While the Lions didn't accept the offer from Denver, Klis reported that the Broncos had a package centered around Lock. In all likeliness, Denver was offering Lock, a first-round pick, and another draft pick for Stafford.

But the Rams would crash the party by offering two future first-rounders and a third-round pick, along with Jared Goff, to land Stafford. There's a chance that the Lions chose to take the offer of the Rams instead of the Broncos due to Stafford's interest in going to Los Angeles, helping take care of their quarterback of the past 12 seasons.

Nevertheless, the Broncos seem willing to part ways with Lock after he's looked uninspired in his first two seasons in the NFL. Lock, who is Denver's second-round selection from the 2019 NFL Draft, has combined for 3,953 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions in his first 18 starts.

By hiring George Paton as their new general manager, the Broncos have given John Elway someone to consult with about the roster. And it's evident that Paton is interested in moving on from Lock if Denver has an opportunity to upgrade at the quarterback position.

But with Stafford now a member of the Rams, the list of options at quarterback for the Broncos just got a bit thinner.
