Two days after what appeared to be a significant injury to Denver Broncos tight end Noah Fant, ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that the second-year player will miss Denver's match against the New England Patriots—currently scheduled for Oct. 11—but will, however, be considered week-to-week thereafter.

Already dealing with significant injury concerns, most notably to starting quarterback Drew Lock and linebacker Von Miller, the Broncos initially feared the severity of Fant's ailment, as the sophomore tight end withered in pain on the turf at MetLife Stadium, before finally being carted off the field by the team's medical staff.

Having caught 14 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns entering the Thursday night game agains the New York Jets, Fant was one of the few consistent producers for the Broncos on offense, following his selection by Denver in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of the University of Iowa.

While the Broncos will undoubtedly breathe a sigh of relief that the ailment was not worse, the injury news will likely intensify questions over the state of the playing field at the New Jersey stadium. Housing both the New York Giants and Jets, the condition of the turf has come under scrutiny during the first three weeks of the season, following several notable injuries, most prominently by the San Francisco 49ers, who lost three key contributors during their game at MetLife two weeks ago.

Complaining that the turf was “sticky,” the questions forced the league to more closely scrutinize the conditioning of the field, a process which ultimately led them reaffirm its approval. Whether the NFL will reinvestigate or not following another spate of injuries remains to be seen.
