EJ Gaines is off the market. After coming away from his visit to the New York Jets yesterday without a deal, the veteran cornerback has reportedly landed one with the Cleveland Browns, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. The exact details of the deal have yet to be disclosed.

Gaines, 26, spent last season with the Buffalo Bills after being traded by the Los Angeles Rams as part of the Sammy Watkins deal. After missing the entire 2015 season due to a Lisfranc injury, he appeared in just 11 games for the second straight season in 2017 due to lower body injuries.

However, he played very well when he was on the field. He recorded 59 tackles with one interception, nine passes defended, and three forced fumbles as the Bills went an impressive 8-3 when he did play. He was ranked as the 13th-best cornerback in the league last season by Pro Football Focus.

Gaines becomes the latest addition to a Browns secondary that’s been dramatically reconstructed this offseason. They traded for Damarious Randall from the Packers and signed TJ Carrie and Terrance Mitchell in free agency while trading away veteran Jason McCourty to the Patriots.

Gaines likely won’t need too much time to get settled into Cleveland’s system seeing as he will be reunited with Browns defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. Williams was in charge of the Rams defense during the three years Gaines spent there. The Browns will hope his arrival helps improve a pass defense which was the Achilles heel of the Cleveland offense last season.
