Former LSU and current Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was in attendance for LSU's win over Clemson in the national championship. After the win, he found himself in the mass of people in the middle of the field and proceeded to do something that raised eyebrows.

Beckham was handing out cash to LSU football players. That naturally raises red flags for the NCAA, who have strongly prohibited playing student-athletes since the dawn of time. On Wednesday, LSU released a statement on the matter. Via Andrew Groover of the Associated Press:

“We are aware of the situation regarding Odell Beckham Jr. interacting with LSU student-athletes and others affiliated with the team regarding the championship game Monday night. Initial information suggested bills that were exchanged were novelty bills. Information and footage reviewed since shows apparent cash may have also been given to LSU student-athletes. We were in contact with the NCAA and SEC immediately upon learning of this situation in which some of our student-athletes may have been placed in a compromising position. We are working with our student-athletes, the NCAA and the SEC in order to rectify the situation.”

The Browns receiver was also with the LSU players in their postgame party in the locker room. He got involved in a situation where New Orleans police asked players to put out their victory cigars.

Whether or not something comes from the situation is unknown. However, Beckham will likely not receive a penalty from the NFL, as it relates to matters outside of their jurisdiction.
