Newly-hired Chicago Bulls senior advisor of basketball operations Doug Collins has been around the sport for decades. But don’t assume he has a dinosaur-mentality, unable to adapt to the new basketball trends and resistant to change. That’s what he told Nick Friedell of ESPN, who also got a bit of lecture of millennial-speak from the 66-year-old former No. 1 pick overall.

Now that he’s part of the Bulls’ think-tank, Chicago fans are hoping that Collins is truly aware of what ills the franchise and knows solutions on how to make the team competitive again. The Bulls have been a disappointment over the past couple of years — or since Tom Thibodeau’s final season as coach of the team.

Collins will have plenty of work to do with the Bulls, especially after Chicago traded former cornerstone star Jimmy Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves during the summer.

Doug Collins was drafted first overall in 1973 by the Philadelphia 76ers and went on to play for the team until his retirement in 1981. He hung around the league as head coach for four different teams, beginning his career with the Chicago Bulls in 1986. He last coached in Philadelphia in 2013.
