The Chicago Bulls' offseason began far sooner than they would have hoped after the first-round exit at the hands of the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Playoffs. Unfortunately, the Bulls received some bad news with the playoffs ongoing. NBC Sports Chicago's David Kaplan reports some bad news on the Lonzo Ball injury front.

Per Kaplan, there are “serious concerns” within the Bulls' organization about Ball's knee injury. The knee is not getting better and Ball experiences pain when attempting to ramp up his activity levels.

Needless to say, that is not the way the Bulls wanted to start the NBA offseason. Ball suffered a meniscus tear back in January, which sidelined him for six to eight weeks, though that timeline stretched further when the team announced in April that he would miss the remainder of the season.

A few weeks ago, Ball spoke to reporters and said that he was “at a standstill in his recovery” from the knee injury, even leaving his options open for another surgery.

Ball appeared in just 35 games for the Bulls in 2021, averaging 13.o points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. While effective, he was unable to stay on the court, something that has plagued him during his first five seasons.

If the Bulls want to take the next step in 2022, they'll need Ball to be available. So far this NBA offseason, things are trending in the wrong direction.
