After learning they weren't going to be able to sign quarterback Kirk Cousins in NFL free agency, the Arizona Cardinals started exploring other options to replace the recently retired Carson Palmer. The team quickly agreed to a deal with veteran journeyman Sam Bradford on a short-term deal, but it appears the team may have tried to acquire another veteran in a trade before agreeing to terms with Bradford.

According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network via Peter Schrager of Fox Sports, the Cardinals reached out to the Philadelphia Eagles with interest in reigning Super Bowl MVP, Nick Foles.

The fate of Foles in Philadelphia still remains uncertain. The Eagles are rumored to have placed a high price tag on Foles if any teams like the Cardinals come calling about a trade. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that a trade could still happen, but Philadelphia may value Foles as an insurance policy for Carson Wentz as he continues to battle back from the knee injury that ended his 2017 campaign.

With the Cardinals bringing in Bradford for at least one year, the team was obviously not willing the pay the asking price the Eagles were proposing for Foles. Bradford, however, is coming off a season in which he played only one full game for the Minnesota Vikings before dealing with a knee issue once again.

Surprisingly enough, Bradford will earn $15 million guaranteed next season. That might be a move the Cardinals regret if his knee doesn't hold up. In the event that Bradford continues to have injury issues, Arizona could reach out to Philadelphia for a second time if the team hasn't traded him.
