The Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat put on a show Sunday night in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The Celtics survived a late push from the Heat to win on the road once again, 100-96. After the game, Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum was named Larry Bird Eastern Conference Finals MVP.

However, before that happened, Tatum and fellow Celtics star Jaylen Brown shared a moment on the court together.

You can pretty easily read Tatum's lips. He says ā€œThey said we couldn't play together.ā€ That referenced much of the sports media calling for one of them to be traded early this season.

The Celtics were under .500 two months into the season. They were only at .500 at the end of January. People were claiming that Boston's two best players' games were too similar and they could not co-exist. Clearly, that take was way off base.

Boston finished the regular season 26-6 and moved all the way up to the #2 seed in the Eastern Conference. During that time, the Celtics defense became the best in the NBA, and it was not even close. The Celtics starting five of Tatum, Brown, Marcus Smart, Al Horford and Robert Williams hold opponents to 95 points per 100 possessions. That was miles ahead of the rest of the league.

Tatum and Brown carried the Celtics offensively throughout the playoffs. But in Game 7, everyone played a role. Smart made timely shots. Al Horford ripped down a game-high 14 rebounds. Derrick White was an offensive spark off the bench in the first half.

But this story begins and ends with Tatum and Brown. After losing multiple Eastern Conference Finals together, they have finally reached the NBA Finals. Their reward, a date with the Golden State Warriors.
