The Boston Celtics sustained another key injury after superstar Kyrie Irving was ruled out after suffering a minor facial fracture in the opening minutes of their game versus the Charlotte Hornets. Fortunately, Boston has still been able to stretch their win streak to 12 in his absence.

Although Irving has since rejoined the team, his status for Tuesday's matchup versus the Brooklyn Nets still remains questionable, according to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe:

Irving got off to a spectacular start in his new role as the Celtics' showrunner to begin the 2017-18 NBA season. He was averaging 22 points and 5.7 assists per game prior to the injury while stepping up as its unquestionable leader in the wake of star forward Gordon Hayward's absence.

Meanwhile, Boston has had to rely on its talented, young pairing of forward Jayson Tatum and guard Jaylen Brown. The rookie Tatum established himself as the team's go-to scorer in the clutch with their four-time All-Star point guard out.

When Irving does return, he will reportedly wear a protective mask on his face for the time being. Fortunately, he has had some familiarity with this situation in the past. That said, it should be noted that ‘Black Mask Kyrie' has proven to be quite effective.
