Heading into the 2017-18 NBA season, there were expectations it would take time for the Boston Celtics to come together. Highlighted by the Kyrie Irving trade, the Celtics only had four players return from last season's roster that made it to the 2017 Eastern Conference Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

At the midway point of the season, the Celtics currently have a 30-10 record, which is the best in the Eastern Conference. According to Steve Bulpett of Boston Herald, an anonymous NBA executive believes head coach Brad Stevens is the best move President of Basketball Operations/general manager Danny Ainge has made:

“Best move Danny ever made,” one NBA executive said. “No question.”

At just 41 years old and already in his fifth season as the team's head coach, Stevens deserves a lot of the credit for Boston's success. Despite the roster overhaul and the major season-ending injury to Gordon Hayward, he has found the right combinations to keep the Celtics winning as they continue to build chemistry.

For the Celtics, the next step is to dethrone the Cavaliers, who have made three consecutive NBA Finals appearances. With Isaiah Thomas making his 2017-18 season debut against the Portland Trail Blazers, the two teams who made a blockbuster trade with each other during the offseason are the favorites to represent the Eastern Conference in the 2018 NBA Finals.
