The Boston Celtics will embark on a new era in the franchise with All-Star point guard Kemba Walker, acquired in the offseason's free agency. But there is another summer addition promising highs for the Celtics fanbase: French center Vincent Poirier.

Per Adam Himmelsbach in the Boston Globe:

When Poirier, a strong rim-running big man, is asked what he will bring to the Celtics, he does not hesitate before talking about his dunks. He said he will also block shots and defend and make the kinds of plays that generally get fans riled up.

“I will be fun to watch,” he said.

Celtics president Danny Ainge and the front office signed 25-year-old French big man after a previous international professional career playing in France and Spain. The seven-foot Poirier signed a two-year deal with Boston in July, fighting for the backup center role behind NBA veteran Enes Kanter, another overseas import from Turkey who last played with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Boston's frontcourt also includes Robert Williams and Guerschon Yabusele. With more international flavor on the Celtics roster, Poirier recently said Boston will play like a “European” team. Poirier led the EuroLeague last year in rebounding and could pose as a playable big man with Walker along with key wing players in Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, and Gordon Hayward.

The Celtics are coming off back-to-back second-round exists from the Eastern Conference playoffs, so the organization is quite angsty to revitalize a postseason run and turn the franchise back into a perennial contender. Kyrie Irving and Al Horford's individual free-agency decisions may have changed things a bit, but Vincent Poirier is in Bean Town to perk things up.
