With the sixth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Chargers selected quarterback Justin Herbert out of Oregon.

And now, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport on Twitter, they have agreed to a deal on a contract with the rookie.

So the deal really is not much of a surprise. It is a four-year deal with a fifth-year option for Justin Herbert. The four years have a fully guaranteed worth over around $26.66 million. That's definitely a good start for the quarterback.

The Chargers are on a path that they have not been on in a while. Since 2004 to be exact. With Justin Herbert, Los Angeles now has a rookie quarterback that they expect to be the franchise leader for years to come. Similar to Philip Rivers.

Rivers left this offseason to go play for the Indianapolis Colts. And that left the door open for Justin Herbert to be drafted to Los Angeles.

The first hurdle has now been overcome.

So now Justin Herbert and the Chargers can focus on the regular season and getting prepared.

It's unclear whether the rookie will be starting immediately. They certainly don't need him to take over right away, as Tyrod Taylor has proven he can make plays at the position and hold a team above water.

With that in mind, the Chargers can take their time in developing Justin Herbert. They officially have him under contract for the next four years, and could option that to five. So there is no need to rush anything.

That being said, the quarterback is certainly going to make his case. And he may be able to convince Los Angeles to give him the starting job in 2020.

We'll have to see how it all plays out. One thing is certain though, Justin Herbert just got paid.
