The Los Angeles Chargers surprised a lot of people in 2017. Philip Rivers and company defied the odds by putting together a fairly solid season in their first year in Los Angeles following an ugly divorce with San Diego.

One player that didn't get much of an opportunity to shine was rookie wide receiver, Mike Williams. Although Williams was the team's prized rookie behind Joey Bosa, health issues kept him from showing the team and the NFL what he can do. Receivers coach Phil McGeoghan recently had a wide-ranging interview with the team's website to talk about the team's receiving corps, and he believes Williams is in for a breakout season in 2018.

“This is a big year for Mike. Obviously, everyone evaluated him at the Combine when he was coming out. He was an unbelievable talent. I tell all the young guys that the biggest year in their whole career is between their first and second year. That first year, you’re just a rookie. You’re just trying to figure out where your locker is, what the day is like and how to take care of your body. As you become a second-year player, you start to get into a routine. You develop your habits. You get a better idea of all that. Now Mike, obviously I didn’t know him as a person, but he’s been just phenomenal in our room.”

Williams is part of a talented receiving corps that includes Keenan Allen and Travis Benjamin. Rivers has the targets to make some noise in 2018 as the Chargers attempt to their playoff drought.

Last season, Williams played in 10 games for the Chargers starting in one of those appearances. He finished with 11 receptions for 95 yards.
