The Los Angeles Chargers might still select a quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft, but as of now, Tyrod Taylor is the projected starter after the Chargers failed to land Tom Brady in free agency.

Taylor is out to show the league he can be a productive quarterback, saying he is “more motivated than ever” (via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk):

“All I can do is show ’em with the next opportunity that they shouldn’t have slept on me,” Taylor said. “I’m definitely motivated more than ever. I’m motivated because I’m able to show my teammates and my coaches what I’m capable of doing. I’m not going out there to prove something to a fan or prove something to someone who may not like me. You’re never going to please everybody. I’m not trying to please everybody.”

Taylor has had mixed results as a starter. He finished with a 22-20 record as the signal-caller for the Buffalo Bills, though was named to the Pro Bowl in 2015 and led the Bills to the playoffs in 2017.

However, Taylor lost the starting job in Cleveland in 2018 after completing under 50 percent of his passes through the first three games of the season.

Still, Taylor and Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn have a history from their time together in Buffalo, and Taylor is no stranger to quarterback competitions after his time with the Browns.

Even if the Chargers bring in a rookie quarterback to challenge Taylor, he seems intent on proving his worth and helping Los Angeles bounce back in 2020.
