The Kansas City Chiefs' secondary has gotten even more shallow than it already was. Rookie cornerback L'Jarius Sneed reportedly suffered a broken collarbone in Monday’s win over the Ravens, according to Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star.

The Louisiana Tech product has already recorded two interceptions through two games. His absence on the field will be a big blow to the Chiefs given his good performance in the early stages of the season.

Veteran cornerback Bashaud Breeland is sidelined for the first four games of the season due to a suspension for violating the league's policy on substance abuse handed by the league. Meanwhile, third-year cornerback Charvarius Ward sustained a fractured hand back in Week 1 and is not playing in full condition. Fifth-year player Antonio Hamilton could see more time on the field in lieu of the absences in the team's secondary.

The Chiefs' defense has been stellar in the early stages of the season. They have limited all three opponents to just 20 points in their games thus far. Safety Tyrann Mathieu anchored the team's defensive line after tallying six total tackles in their opening game against the Houston Texans en route to a resounding 34-20 victory.

The Chiefs then managed to escape Los Angeles with a 23-20 overtime win against the Chargers where linebacker Damien Wilson disrupted with seven total tackles. The reigning Super Bowl champions held the powerhouse Baltimore Ravens to a low-scoring output where they pulled away with a 34-20 statement win.

With Sneed's looming absence, the Chiefs' defensive rotation will be tested as they go up against a capable opponent in the New England Patriots on October 4 for Week 4 proceedings.
