Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid probably woke up on Sunday not knowing he'd be part of one of the greatest games in NFL Playoffs history. But for sure, he wouldn't want it any other way.

The Chiefs crawled, battled, and survived against the Buffalo Bills in overtime, 42-36. Both proud teams refused to budge throughout the game, a skirmish highlighted by the head-to-head matchup between Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen, two of the NFL's toughest quarterbacks.

But it wasn't just about Mahomes for the Chiefs. Guys like Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Harrison Butker also made crucial plays to help their team advance to the AFC Championship Game for the fourth consecutive year. Reid couldn't help but tip his hat to his wards for their resolute desire to get the job done (via Washington Post's Nicki Jhabvala).

The amiable Reid, who has steered the Chiefs to two Super Bowl appearances, including winning the title in 2020, is not one to put the spotlight on himself. But the work he's done has been remarkable, especially since they started the season flat.

Take it from his counterpart, Bills coach Sean McDermott, who was quite gracious in defeat.

“The Chiefs are a good football team. We knew it was going to take a heck of an effort coming out here.”

The Chiefs will host the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Maybe Reid will wake up that day and be part of another memorable contest.
