As they say, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. But for Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid, he has a different philosophy. Well, sort of.

The Chiefs escaped the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night in an insane game that should be remembered for decades. With their hard-earned 42-36 overtime win, Reid, Patrick Mahomes, and the rest of the crew moved on to their fourth straight AFC Championship Game.

With the game on the line, it didn't come as a surprise that Mahomes stepped up for the Chiefs. The star quarterback connected with tight end Travis Kelce early in the extension period to finish off the Bills. The 26-year-old Mahomes finished with 378 yards passing and three touchdowns, including an epic one to wide receiver Tyreek Hill in the dying moments of regulation to keep the Chiefs' flatlining hopes alive.

When asked about Mahomes' magic, Reid summed it up pretty poetically (via The Athletic's Nate Taylor).

“When it's grim, be the grim reaper.”

Somebody put that on a t-shirt!

Reid also said what everyone's thinking about Mahomes after the Chiefs' thrilling victory (via ESPN).

“He made everyone around him better.”

Mahomes didn't have the most ideal start to the season, as he visibly struggled with his throws. Some observers cast doubt on whether the Chiefs could make it to the NFL Playoffs, but Reid and his wards strung up a series of wins and it appears they're peaking at the perfect moment.

Sadly for the Bills, the grim reaper showed up.
