While Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James never played in the NFL despite a sterling high-school football resumé, it's possible the league has a similar star on their hands.

Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach compared his MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes to James due to his elite talent and burgeoning sports-wide superstardom.

Mahomes, 23, earned his first Pro Bowl spot, All-Pro team, and, of course, the league's prestigious MVP award as a first-year starter last season. He threw for 50 touchdowns and over 5,000 yards in 2018 after only appearing in one game as a rookie behind incumbent starter Alex Smith. The Chiefs, led by Mahomes, were en route to a Super Bowl berth but were stopped by eventual-champs Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game, a thrilling back-and-forth affair won by the Patriots in overtime.
The Chiefs have no plans of letting Mahomes get away any time soon, either. Veach told The Ringer that Kansas City has every intention of signing the 23-year-old to a mega extension when Mahomes is eligible following the conclusion of the 2019 season.
