The Kansas City Chiefs have decided to go back to the well trying to get some wide receiver depth signing De'Anthony Thomas. In a corresponding move, the team released former East Carolina Pirates wideout, Davon Grayson.

The Chiefs do have some question marks at wide receiver with Marcus Kemp tearing his ACL and Thomas could help replace that. Kemp was a special teams standout, and Thomas has been a great kick returner throughout his career.

Thomas was originally drafted by the Chiefs in the 4th round of the 2014 draft and played wide receiver along with being a hybrid type running back. He has never had more than 156 receiving yards in a season but his main role the past few years has been on special teams.

Last season he played in five games with the Chiefs before he suffered a fractured leg in practice and being lost for the season.

Earlier this year Thomas was arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession, and there is a chance a suspension could be coming his way. There hasn't been anything announced, but now he is signed the league will probably move a little faster to decide if he will receive a suspension.

It's not a guarantee that Thomas is going to make the roster, but missing the first couple of preseason games shouldn't hurt his chances. He has been around the Chiefs coaching staff long enough that they know exactly what they are getting in him.

Look for Thomas to get chances returning kicks during the next couple of preseason games.
