The Kansas City Chiefs are set to sign veteran cornerback Orlando Scandrick, per Field Yates of ESPN.

Scandrick was just released Tuesday by the Redskins after signing a two-year deal with Washington in March. Although, Redskins coach Jay Gruden claims Scandrick's release was not due to his play, but because of the emergence of the team's young cornerbacks.

The Chiefs will be Scandrick's third team in 2018. Prior to his short stint in D.C., he was also released by the Dallas Cowboys, with whom he spent his first 10 seasons in the NFL. Scandrick played 125 games for the Cowboys, making 399 tackles with eight interceptions and 11.5 sacks.

However, the 31-year-old was coming off another injury-plagued season in 2017 as he appeared in just 11 games. He’s played a mere 23 games over the last three years.

The Chiefs have been searching for veteran help at cornerback. They visited early in training camp with Bashaud Breeland but failed to sign him. They then moved quickly to set up a visit with Scandrick shortly after his release from the Redskins.

The Chiefs have made wholesale changes to their secondary this offseason. They got rid of five of their top six cornerbacks from last season, including Marcus Peters. They got highly-rated slot corner Kendall Fuller from the Redskins as part of the Alex Smith trade and signed veteran David Amerson as a free agent, but are still thin in proven players at corner.
