Los Angeles Clippers legendary play-by-play announcer Ralph Lawler acknowledges the timing of his retirement “stinks.”

The Clippers signed Kawhi Leonard in free agency and traded for Paul George this summer, making them legitimate title contenders in the 2019-20 NBA season.

Unfortunately, Ralph Lawler won't be calling the games and will instead watch as a fan on TV:

“The timing stinks,” Lawler said, via Jovan Buha of The Athletic. “I wish I’d have done all this a year ago or put off retiring for a year. It’s going to be hard to miss what’s going to be a golden year for this franchise.”

The Clippers won 48 games last season and took the Golden State Warriors to six games in the first round of the playoffs without having an All-Star on the team. Now, Los Angeles has two of the best players in all of basketball and a great supporting cast.

It would have been awesome to hear Lawler call Clippers games with Leonard and George in the fold, but Ralph deserves to enjoy his retirement after working hard for so many years. Hopefully, Los Angeles can win the title next season so Lawler can watch a championship season with his wife by his side.
