Malcolm Brogdon recently guested on the The JJ Redick Podcast, and one of the things they covered was how Redick himself believes that his former team, the Los Angeles Clippers, should have drafted Brogdon in the 2016 NBA Draft.

According to Redick, he actually pleaded with the Clippers to take a chance on Brogdon with the No. 25 pick, but it fell on deaf ears:

“I wanted to tell a story. I don't know if you remember this,” Redick told Brogdon. “The very first time I ever met you was after the Clippers and Bucks played your rookie year. And I came over to you in the hallway, and I was like, ‘Hey, man, I just wanted to let you know that for the two months leading up to the draft I was telling everybody in the Clippers' front office that we should draft you at No. 25.”

Brogdon could not help but laugh at Redick's retelling of their first encounter. In the end, it was the Milwaukee Bucks that snagged the former Virginia standout at the 36th spot in the draft, which made Redick even more regretful:

“It's amazing — so you went 36? Is that right?” Redick said. “So we actually had two chances to draft him because we had the 33rd pick pick too. What the f–k.”

Redick is not one to forget, and even if this transpired a couple of years ago, the memory still seems fresh on his mind.

For the record, LA selected Brice Johnson at the 25th spot and went for Cheick Diallo at 33. Johnson ended up playing just 12 games for the Clippers in two seasons and is now out of the NBA. Diallo, on the other hand, was quickly shipped off to the Pelicans on draft night in exchange for David Michineau and Diamond Stone. Michineau never even made the roster, while Stone played seven games before also being cut by the team.
