Indiana has been plagued by turnovers, but remains scrappy with quarterback Michael Penix Jr. at the helm.

Why Indiana Could Cover The Spread
Indiana could cover the spread if they take care of the ball. Penix Jr. has six interceptions already this season, which is tied for the most in all of the FBS. If the Hoosiers could not give away any possessions to Penn State, it would go a long way towards keeping this game competitive. Defensively, they'll have to step it up compared to what they've shown so far this season. Indiana has given up 31 or more points three times already through the first four weeks of the season.
Penn State may be their toughest test yet, so they will need a solid outing from their defense as well as their offense helping control some of the clock if they have hopes of slowing down the Nittany Lions and making this a competitive ballgame. Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford has been one of the better passers around the country this season, so Indiana certainly has their work cut out for them. Penn State is the better team, and they will also been on their homefield in Happy Valley come Saturday evening. Clifford is 15th in the nation in passing yards, and has eight touchdowns to just two interceptions for the Nittany Lions across four games this season. Penn State has taken down two ranked opponents (@ No. 12 Wisconsin in Week 1 and at home vs. No. 22 Auburn in Week 3) already this season, covering in both instances. Penn State is 3-1 vs. the spread so far in 2021.

Indiana's offense really struggled vs. Iowa in Week 1, and it wasn't a whole lot better vs. Cincinnati a couple weeks later. They have really struggled as a unit vs. strong defenses. Penn State may present another obstacle that they cannot overcome. The passing attack led by Clifford combined with the stout defensive numbers make Penn State feel like a good bet to cover the 12.5 points in their home stadium on Saturday night. Indiana may show fight in the early going, but the talent of Penn State should take over before it's all said and done.
