A lot of people within the card community haven't been that high on Collin Sexton. Some see the third-year player as an undersized guard who can score but can’t play defense or create consistently create plays for his teammates. It doesn’t help that the Cleveland Cavaliers have been at the bottom rung of the NBA since LeBron James left the organization for a second time.

However, The Young Bull is really starting to make a name for himself.

Sexton just led the Cavs in a 147-135 double-overtime victory against the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday. This game marked the return of Kyrie Irving to the Nets for his first game alongside Kevin Durant and James Harden.

Although this was the first time Brooklyn fielded these three All-Stars together, it was Sexton who came out on top. The Young Bull scored a career-high 42 points, including 22 in the overtime periods. He even scored 20 straight Cavs points.

Thanks to this huge win, Collin Sexton has caught the attention not only of the league but of fans who want to collect more of his cards.

The offseason and the start of the 2020-21 season

When the NBA was shut down last March, the Cavs’ season came to an abrupt end. Since they didn’t have enough wins, Cleveland wasn’t invited to participate in the bubble, robbing fans the chance to see how Collin Sexton and Darius Garland would jell with Andre Drummond, their new acquisition at that time.

As a result of this prolonged absence, Sexton’s cards weren’t given much thought by the fans. It made more sense for people to pursue young stars like Luka Doncic or Ja Morant.

During the offseason, Sexton’s Prizm rookie card could be had for as low as $3.49. But thanks to Sexton and his backcourt partner, Darius Garland, Cleveland managed to string a series of wins together during the season’s first two weeks. Their performance invigorated not only Cavs fans, but the card community as well.

Up until the first week of January, Sexton’s Prizm rookie card value rose up to an average of $19 because of his tremendous performance to start the season. There was a lull when he and Garland got injured this month, causing their prices to plateau for a bit. Nevertheless, that amount still represented a sharp increase in his card prices compared to just a few months ago.

After returning from an ankle injury, Sexton wasted no time in making his presence felt. The Cavs were still without Garland and were dealing with the aftermath of the Kevin Porter Jr. fiasco heading into this Nets game. All the hype was surrounding the debut of the Nets' superstar trio.

While the talent of these three players has been proven time and time again, in the end, it was Sexton who stood tall with the victory. After two overtimes and several clutch plays, The Young Bull kept the Cavs on top.

As a result of his impressive performance against the Nets, Collin Sexton cards blew up right after the game. From a measly price of $3.49 during the offseason, Sexton’s Prizm rookie card value has shot up to $149. This increase represents a renewed interest in The Young Bull among card collectors. If Sexton keeps up his numbers and continues leading the Cavs to more victories, his card prices will exponentially go up.

This goes to show that it always pays to keep some stock of these young players, especially with those who have the potential to go off like Collin Sexton. When you buy low and this happens, you can end up with a lot of value in your hands.
