Sweeping issues plaguing the Indianapolis Colts' offensive line will only worsen if the best guard in football is sidelined for an extended period. Early in his team's Week 3 matchup with the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, elite interior lineman Quenton Nelson was carted off the field with an ankle injury.

Nelson was initially ruled questionable to return and then later ruled out.

Nelson, named First-Team All-Pro in each of his three NFL seasons since being selected with the sixth overall pick of the 2018 draft, was ranked No. 33 in the NFL's top-100 players of 2021. It was the second consecutive season the Notre Dame product was voted by his peers as football's best offensive lineman, an especially impressive feat considering he plays on the inside.

The Colts' offensive line has been subject to well-deserved criticism this season even before potentially losing its leader. Quarterback Carson Wentz entered Sunday's game questionable to play with sprains to both ankles, the result of him being sacked six times—tied third-most in the league—and subject to tens of pressures throughout the first two games of the season.

Indianapolis, 0-2, drastically needs a win versus division-rival Tennessee to keep pace in the AFC South.
