No Dallas Cowboys fan alive could possibly imagine a world in which Big D's offensive line existed without Zack Martin yet recent headlines have fandom thinking terrible things.

Executive vice president Stephen Jones admits that the organization and Martin's camp aren't yet close to nearing a possible contract extension that'd keep the All-Pro guard in Dallas past 2018, via Todd Archer of ESPN.

“We just aren’t there yet,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said, via Todd Archer of ESPN. “We’ll continue to roll up our sleeves and go to work on it. We understand this is the hard part of our business. Nobody wants to have Zack signed more than we do. We think he’s one of the best offensive linemen in the league. Certainly we think the best offensive guard in the league [and] should be paid accordingly. It’s just a matter of structures and by how much and that type of thing. No one respect what Zack has done for this team more than we do.”

Martin, 27, was the 16th overall choice by the Cowboys circa the 2014 NFL Draft. Since that time, the franchise has enjoyed the status as owning the best offensive line in the game, immediately transforming a previously struggling offense.

Adding a cinema element to the equation is the idea that Stephen is the one who truly selected Martin. Reports have indicated that Jerry Jones was hot for Johnny Manziel (who was later selected by the Cleveland Browns in that same round). It turned out the safe, possible Hall of Fame career of Martin was the guy and now, he'll be playing on the last year of his rookie deal.

Zack Martin's been a stud since day one. In addition to qualifying for four Pro Bowls (in four seasons), he's been named to the First-Team All-Pro squad twice.
