The Dallas Cowboys suffered a pretty tough loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1. And apparently the hits are still coming from that game.

According to Charean Williams of ProFootballTalk, Dallas pass rusher Aldon Smith has been slapped with a $12,004 fine for an illegal hit he imparted on Los Angeles quarterback Jared Goff.

The hit in question happened during the third quarter of the game. Goff went to throw the ball and right as he was releasing it, Smith's hand made hard contact with the quarterback's helmet.

The hit did not appear to change the throw too much. However, that throw did result in an interception.

But the penalty was also not called on the field, as the refs did not appear to see the contact. That meant that the interception stood and the momentum seemed to be shifting to the Cowboys.

Obviously, the interception did not help Dallas though. They still managed to lose the game 20-17.

So while it might be a little upsetting for Goff that his interception still stands despite the fact that it should have been wiped off due to a penalty, he's probably not complaining too much. His team won the game.

As for Smith, he is trying to find his way back to the NFL. Week 1 was his first game in the NFL since 2015 due to a number of off-field issues. This fine likely isn't the most welcome news to him because of that.

That being said, the Cowboys bounced back for an incredible comeback win in Week 2, and Smith already has 16 tackles and a sack in two games so far this season. Clearly, he has not lost much of a step.

Hopefully that fine does not hurt Smith's pockets too much, as it was clearly incidentally contact to Goff. No ill will was meant by that hit, and the quarterback came away from it unscathed.
