Dallas Cowboys veteran wide receiver Brice Butler is set to hit the free agent market this upcoming offseason.

During an interview on FX1's “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” on Thursday morning, the 27-year-old made it clear that he'll re-sign with the Cowboys in free agency if they guarantee that he'll start next season.

“With Dallas, the situation has to be right for me to go back. I have to be a starter. If I’m not starting, I’m not going back.”

Butler has spent the last three years with Dallas, recording 43 catches for 794 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 36 games. In 2017, the San Diego State product made 15 receptions on 24 targets for 317 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 13 games.

Butler ranked sixth on the team in total targets while making no more than two catches in any contest that he appeared in this past season. In fact, All-Pro running back Ezekiel Elliott, who missed six games due to a suspension, had more receptions (26) and targets (38) than Butler.

Prior to joining the Cowboys, he spent his first two seasons with the Oakland Raiders after being selected in the seventh round in the 2013 NFL Draft. Butler has yet to grasp a significant role in the passing game in any of his first five seasons in the league.

This type of demand could lead to the Cowboys letting Butler walk in free agency, as the team is also expected to approach star wideout Dez Bryant for a possible pay cut. Bryant already responded to that scenario with no desire to take less money. This in itself could lead to the three-time Pro Bowler potentially be moved or released by Dallas this upcoming offseason.
