The Dallas Cowboys, along with the other 31 teams, had their 2020 schedule released on Thursday, with some surprising discoveries. Following the schedule release, Mike McCarthy shared his reaction to Dallas' unconventional schedule in 2020.

In recent years, the Cowboys have typically faced an NFC East rival early in the season. As a matter of fact, they've opened their season against the New York Giants in two out of the past three seasons.

However, upon the NFL's 2020 schedule release, it will be quite sometime before the Cowboys face an NFC East opponent. To be exact, the first divisional game that Dallas takes part in will come in Week 5 versus the Giants.

For some teams, they would prefer to face their divisional opponents earlier in the season to gauge where their team is at. On the other hand, McCarthy is on board with the idea of waiting until Week 5 to face an NFC East counterpart. By waiting until Week 5, the Cowboys can hopefully build some momentum and get a view of what they'll look like by Week 5.

After taking on the Giants in Week 5, Dallas will proceed to square off against the Arizona Cardinals at home in Week 6. Then, in Weeks 7 and 8, the Cowboys will hit the road to take on the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles.

Last season, the Cowboys fared well against their divisional foes, going 5-1 in their six meetings. Even though their divisional games won't begin until later in the season, Dallas hopes to have the same success in the NFC East in 2020.
