Derrick Henry has become one of the best running backs in football over the last two seasons for the Tennessee Titans.

However, that's led to an issue of sorts. Now working out a contract with the running back will be a little bit harder.

There's already some good news on that front though. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Titans and Henry have signed a franchise tender worth $10.2 million on Thursday. This happens with the goal of working towards a long-term extension soon.

Henry had his moments in his first two years in the NFL. The playing time was limited though.

Then came 2018. That year saw Henry rack up 1,059 yards on 215 carries (4.9 yards per carry) and 11 touchdowns. However, 408 of those yards and six of those touchdowns came in a two-game span. There was an argument to be made that the 2018 numbers weren't as good as they looked due to that.

All that talk was shut down in 2019, though.

Henry ran for a league-high 1,540 yards on 303 carries (5.1 yards per carry) and scored a league-high 16 touchdowns. Suddenly, he had all types of monster games in 2019, not just two.

And just look at what he did in the playoffs. Henry ran for 182 yards and a touchdown in the AFC Wild Card Game win against the New England Patriots. Then he ran for 195 yards in the divisional round win over the Baltimore Ravens.

In the AFC Championship Game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Henry had just 69 yards and the Titans lost. Those two things are absolutely connected.

Therefore, it's no surprise that the Titans want to bring back Henry. He was their workhorse and probably the MVP for Tennessee last year. It truly looks like he could run them into quite a few wins.

It's unclear how far apart the two sides are, but expect the contract to be pretty lengthy, and pretty hefty.
