In a bizarre turn of events, reports have now confirmed that Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner has tested positive for COVID-19. This unfortunate development comes literally minutes after Los Angeles won the World Series on Tuesday night.

This report comes via ClutchPoints on Twitter:

Turner was substituted in the eighth inning, which at that time seemed like a rather conspicuous decision from the Dodgers coaching staff. There was no reason given as to why the 35-year-old veteran was taken out in such a crucial juncture in the game, which led some to believe that there was more to this than a mere tactical decision.

Minutes after the Dodgers secured a 3-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays to bag the World Series in six games, Fox broke the unfortunate news on Turner. The positive test result was later confirmed by commissioner Rob Manfred:

“Obviously we’re concerned when any of our players test positive,” Manfred said, via Jesse Yomtov of USA TODAY. “We learned during the game. He was immediately isolated to prevent spread.”

Why the Dodgers were unable to get a hold of the test results prior to the game is a real head-scratcher. Had they known beforehand, they would not have allowed Turner to take the field so as to prevent the potential spread of the dreaded virus. Everyone Turner came in contact with will now need to be tested, and hopefully, no additional positive test results are produced.
