It looks like Bioware has already told us about where Dragon Age 4 (DA4) will be set over six years ago. We're just not keen enough to know that Tevinter Imperium was the answer all along.

DRAGON AGE 4 SETTING CONFIRMED TO BE TEVINTER

Players will get to explore the Tevinter Imperium next in DA4, an official Bioware book seemingly confirms. Eurogamer's Tom Phillips reports that the book “Bioware: Stories and Secrets from 25 Years of Game Development” contained the answer.

Text from the book reads: “TEVINTER BOUND: A SNEAK PEEK AT THE FOLLOW-UP TO INQUISITION.” Concept art in the book gives us a glimpse of what is to come. They also suggest that players will even get the chance to explore surrounding areas. “Artwork of a glittering city surrounded by water almost certainly shows Antiva City, the capital of Antiva, an area which borders Tevinter to the east,” writes Phillips.

Long-time fans will not be surprised by this reveal. After all, fans have speculated for years that Tevinter is going to be the location for Dragon Age 4. Those who finished all DLCs of Dragon Age: Inquisition (DA 3) would know. The “Trespasser” DLC ends with the Inquisitor stabbing a dagger through a map labeled “Tevinter Imperium.”

Moreover, a companion book called “Tevinter Nights” was released in March 2020. If anything, this should have given fans a clear message on where the series is headed to.

“When the people in BioWare's Dragon Age universe speak of the Tevinter Imperium, it is often with awe, fear, and trepidation,” writes CBR.com's Jennifer Melzer. In DA4, players will explore for the first time the Tevinter Imperium. It is an old country, the foremost of the nations in the continent of Thedas. Humans rule the land, originally by kings, but now by the Court of Magisters, a council of mages. These mages differ from the mages we've seen in old Dragon Age games, as the mages of Tevinter don't see anything wrong with blood magic.

These powerful mages even attempted to enter the Fade to find the Golden City. This action didn't sit well with the Maker. In turn, the Maker turned the offending mages into the first Darkspawn as punishment. As fans would already know, the Darkspawn has tormented the world since then.

In Dragon Age Inquisition, the player meets Dorian Pavus, a Tevinter mage. The player can learn a lot about the ancient empire from him. You may even romance him if you're ever so inclined.

Bioware first revealed the first Dragon Age 4 trailer in The Game Awards 2020. The developers have been at work with the game since 2015. As of today, Bioware hasn't indicated a release window yet. Some fans consider DA4 more vital than Mass Effect 5 in regaining their trust.
