Dwight Howard is looking for a fresh start, again.

If your memory serves you well, you can think back to a time, before things turned sour in Orlando, when Howard was one of the more popular players in the NBA. He was winning dunk contests, he was cordial and courteous in interviews, and he appeared to be the game's next great center.

His reputation has taken more than its fair share of hits since, and his relationships in both Los Angeles and Houston have always been tenuous.

In a recent interview with Jackie MacMullan of ESPN, Howard expressed his desire to hit the reset button (again), and he opened up about his feelings on the Rockets‘ front office.

In particular, general manager Daryl Morey.

MacMullan brought up Dwight's comments on being “disinterested” at times this season. That's when the Q&A took a turn.

Howard: “There were times I was disinterested because of situations that happened behind the scenes that really hurt me. It left me thinking, ‘This is not what I signed up for.”'

ESPN: What specifically are you referring to?

Howard: “I felt like my role was being reduced. I went to [Rockets general manager] Daryl [Morey] and said, ‘I want to be more involved.' Daryl said, ‘No, we don't want you to be.' My response was, ‘Why not? Why am I here?' It was shocking to me that it came from him instead of our coach. So I said to him, ‘No disrespect to what you do, but you've never played the game. I've been in this game a long time. I know what it takes to be effective.”'

Wow. It's not often that we get an inside look into a conversation between a general manager and a player, especially one as confrontational as this.

It's hard to imagine D12 picking up his option in Houston given that the situation there has clearly soured. It's not only time for Dwight to move forward; it's time for him to move on.
