Philadelphia Eagles running back Corey Clement had quite the rookie season in 2017. After going undrafted, he steadily worked his way up the depth chart in Philly. He then played a crucial part in the team’s Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots as he had 100 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Clement wants to build off that dream Super Bowl performance during his sophomore season, where he plans to be a bigger part of the Philly offense.

“I definitely want to get more touches, more carries, more catches out of the backfield this year,” Clement said per Paul Domowitch of the Philadelphia Daily News. “I want to be more of a key contributor. I don't think that's being greedy. I have a job to do and that's to put this team in the best position possible [to win].”

Clement was able to get a lot more playing time than expected as a rookie after Darren Sproles went down to injury early in the season. He finished with 321 rushing yards on a solid 4.3 yards per carry with four touchdowns, and also added 10 catches for 123 yards and two receiving scores.

But despite his strong showing last year, Clement is by no means guaranteed of getting those added touches. Even with the departure of leading rusher LeGarrette Blount, he will still have a lot of competition in the Philly backfield with the likes of Jay Ajayi, Wendell Smallwood, Sproles, and rookie Donnel Pumphrey also vying for touches in the defending champions’ offense.

Clement will likely get his chance to earn that expanded role for himself, though. He capitalized on his chance when it came last season, so look for him to come with a similar mindset as he helps the champs defend their title this year.
