Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Derek Barnett got a slap on the wrist in the form of a fine for his rough hit on Jamaal Williams.

Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk revealed that the NFL gave him a $28,075 fine for his unnecessarily helmet-to-helmet hit on the Packers running back.

The play in question was a rough one. Williams was already being taken down by Eagles defenders when Barnett rushed in at full speed. It was a violent collision that immediately sent Williams to the ground. The Packers immediately placed him on concussion protocol after the game.

Some are surprised that Barnett wasn't given a suspension after such a violent hit. However, there's nothing people can do now that the NFL has determined the appropriate punishment for him.

Barnett did admit that he kind of went overboard with his tackle on Williams and regretted the hit he gave the 24-year-old from Rialto, CA.

“I was running to the ball, and I didn’t hear a whistle,” Barnett said, per Pro Football Talk. “I went in and tried to tackle him because we’re playing football. I wasn’t trying to hurt anybody because it’s our livelihood, this is how we feed our families. So I don’t wish that upon nobody.”

However, he clarified that he will not be changing the way he plays the game.

“I’m going to have a penalty here and there,” Barnett said, via Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “It is what it is. I’m not going to be tip-toeing out there, though.”
