After two strong performances in his first two starts, rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts will have another chance to provide a spark for the Philadelphia Eagles offense.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson announced that he will “obviously” start Hurts in their Week 16 game against the Dallas Cowboys over Carson Wentz, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Even after a 33-26 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in his second start, the 22-year old still impressed, completing 24 of 44 passes for 338 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions while adding 63 rushing yards on 11 carries and a touchdown on the ground.

Hurts, a second round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, led the Eagles on a late comeback after facing an early deficit. Philadelphia eventually tied the game in the fourth quarter before falling short in his first showdown with Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, who also previously played under center for the Oklahoma Sooners.

Against the Cardinals, Hurts made history, becoming the first Eagles player to pass for 300 yards, three passing touchdowns, and one rushing touchdown since Michael Vick in 2010, per ESPN Stats and Info.

After leading Philadelphia to a 24-21 upset of the New Orleans Saints in Week 14 in his first start, Hurts has now passed for 764 total yards and has five touchdowns in his first two games with no interceptions. Wentz, meanwhile, has 16 touchdown passes and 15 interceptions in his 12 games as starter for the Eagles, while also taking 50 sacks, the highest among NFL quarterbacks.

With Hurts turning in another brilliant performance against the Cardinals, the choice to name him as a starter against the Cowboys was an obvious one, as Pederson had said.
