Marquise Goodwin would like disgruntled Philadelphia Eagles fans “concerned” about his decision to opt out of the 2020 season to look at the numbers regarding COVID-19.

Goodwin said on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon he had received messages from fans suggesting the pandemic “isn't that serious.”

The 29-year-old simply responded by stating the death total has risen to over 150,000.

Goodwin revealed he was Tuesday opting out of the Eagles' season for family reasons.

The former San Francisco 49ers wideout posted a video with his wife and newborn daughter, stating he wanted to prioritize family health and safety.

Goodwin's decision would be reasonable enough even without context. Plenty of players are opting out over concerns surrounding the pandemic.

But of course, Goodwin's motivations have some extra meaning. He and his wife, Morgan, have had numerous complications in multiple pregnancies. The couple had to deliver a stillborn son in November of 2017 and also lost twins during a pregnancy the following year.

Goodwin has made it very clear he is not about to take risks with a five-month-old baby in the house.

The Eagles acquired Goodwin from the Niners in the hopes the burner could recapture the form he showed in 2017, when he recorded 56 receptions for 962 yards. Goodwin struggled with injuries in the last two seasons and played just 25 percent of the 49ers' offensive snaps last season.

Philadelphia general manager Howie Roseman did not make many upgrades at a wide receiver position already riddled with questions about durability and depth.

Goodwin's decision to opt out lessens that depth, though he can hardly be blamed for putting family first in these unprecedented times.
