Philadelphia Eagles executive vice president/general manager Howie Roseman tried to put out the fire once again after drafting Jalen Hurts with the 53rd pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Roseman defended his starter Carson Wentz, insisting the move to draft a quarterback within the first two rounds of the draft is about depth, not to potentially replace him down the line.

“We love Carson Wentz. We've proven that.,” said Roseman, per #PFTPM. “We traded up to get him in the draft, we paid him on his contract. We're trying to build incredible depth and value on this football team. We want to have two of the Top 10 QB's in the league. That's the goal.”

Hurts is a capable quarterback, but some have wondered if he could take the field next to Wentz in a Taysom Hill-like capacity.

“That is a better question for Coach Pederson,” Roseman said on Tuesday, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. “I’m not trying to duck it, but I also don’t feel like that is my dojo.”

Roseman doubled down on his love for Wentz, who had his first 4,000-yard year in 2019, throwing for 27 touchdowns with only seven interceptions.

“I love Carson Wentz, man,” said Roseman. “I love Carson Wentz, and I love going to bed at night putting my bed on the pillow knowing that we have a strong quarterback room. That, to me, makes me sleep better.”

Eagles fans have grown rather confused by the brass' choice to select the talented Oklahoma quarterback now that Wentz has surged back from the injury that forced him to miss five games in 2018.

Hurts can surely be some expensive insurance for a starting quarterback going into his fifth season, but time will say just how the Eagles plan to use him or if they indeed plan to install this quarterback factory.
