The Philadelphia Eagles decided to pick up a quarterback in the second round of the NFL Draft on Friday night, taking Oklahoma's Jalen Hurts with the 53rd overall pick.

Given that Carson Wentz is just 27 years old and fresh off a monster contract extension, it was a rather peculiar decision for the Eagles, but Wentz doesn't seem to be bothered by it.

Shortly after Philadelphia made the pick, Wentz congratulated his new teammate on Twitter:

Hurts is an interesting prospect, to say the least.

Some viewed him as a Lamar Jackson-type going into the draft, but unlike Jackson, who was in line to supplant an aging Joe Flacco in Baltimore, Hurts obviously has a much bigger hurdle to clear to take the starting quarterback job.

Instead, Philly will likely employ Hurts in a similar fashion to the way the New Orleans Saints use Taysom Hill, as Hurts is an athletic freak who racked up 1,298 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns this past season.

The 21-year-old, who actually played his first three collegiate campaigns at the University of Alabama before transferring to Oklahoma for his final year, threw for 3,851 yards, 32 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 69.7 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 191.2 in 2019.

It should also be noted that Wentz has a rather checkered injury history, as he tore his ACL toward the end of 2017 and played in just 11 games in 2018 because of a back issue. Then, a few months ago, Wentz suffered a concussion during the Eagles' Wild Card Round playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

So Hurts should stay ready.
