After some speculation over the last few months, the Philadelphia Eagles have signed star quarterback Carson Wentz to a contract extension.

According to the team's Twitter account, Wentz has agreed to a four-year extension with the team.

With Nick Foles taking his talents to the Jacksonville Jaguars after a successful run as a starter and a backup in Philadelphia, the Eagles needed to make a decision on Wentz's long-term future with the team. Even with the injury issues over the past couple of years, Philadelphia didn't hesitate to retain the talented 26-year-old for at least the next four years.

Although the deal is done and both sides appear happy with the way negotiations went to make it happen, the contract details and the dollar amount Wentz is set to be paid on the extension has yet to be revealed. The young quarterback is one of many players over the last few years that have inked new deals as he joins Derek Carr, Matt Ryan, Matthew Stafford, Aaron Rodgers, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Russell Wilson.

The real question moving forward for the Eagles will be whether Wentz can stay healthy moving forward. When the North Dakota State product is healthy, there's no question he is among the elite players in the NFL at his position. Unfortunately, ever since he suffered the season-ending knee injury against the Los Angeles Rams in December of 2017, he's struggled to stay healthy and return to form.

However, the team is confident he can get back to being among the league's elite quarterbacks and as a result help the Eagles remain a contender in the NFC.
