Zach Ertz and the Philadelphia Eagles are in the middle of a desperate fight to make the playoffs this season. It has been a roller coaster ride all season long, but the Eagles still have a legitimate chance to get into the postseason. They need to win out and get some help, but there is a chance.

Something that many have lost in the shuffle of the playoff chase is the single-season tight end record that Ertz has a chance to break in the final two games of the season.

According to a report from Omar Ruiz of the NFL Network, Ertz is closing in on breaking the single-season tight end record for receptions. He needs 10 today against the Houston Texans in order to break the record.

As of this writing, Ertz has four receptions on the day, bringing the number needed down to just six catches.

On the season coming into today's game, Ertz had caught 101 passes for 1,038 yards and six touchdowns. Those numbers are unheard of for a tight end. He has been producing like a top-notch wide receiver this season.

Ertz has worked his way into becoming one of the top-five tight ends in the game. Some would go so far as to say that he is the best, but there are other players out there still in contention for that title as well. Among them are Travis Kelce, Eric Ebron, George Kittle, and Rob Gronkowski.

Philadelphia will need their star tight end to continue playing well in order to make the playoffs. Ertz has taken a lot of pressure off of Nick Foles and will continue to do so.
